On 24 January, the Prince's trust Gillingham Team 1 for Connexions made their final presentation to a packed hall at Gillingham Methodist Centre.
Seven 17 year-olds, Kirsty Gill, Jason Redding, Alana May, Lisa Berwick and Sam Souch have so far completed nine weeks of the 12-week programme. The group have taken part in activities such as
a team-building week in Carroty Wood and a two-week community project to improve a children's play area at the Mulberry Nursery Centre.
The group are now raising money toward their final challenge though a series of community spirited activites including car-washing in Gillingham and bag-packing at Morrisons supermarket.
The team plans to raise enough money to hold a community fun day for young and old.
Paul Clark MP said: "Seeing a group of young people so keen to take part in, and organise, community activities is extremely refreshing. All too often young people are labelled as anti-social
yobs - when in fact the majority care about the communities they live in and are keen to be a part of that.
"The presentation was very well delivered, witty and really conveyed the hard work and immense fun that everyone had taking part in this. I would encourage all young people to get involved in this
sort of project."
