MPs say no Capstone Valley development

Capstone Valley update

Medway Magna consortium want to build 9,000 new homes on the Greenfield site. This has already once been rejected by planning Inspectors. It is a proposal for a major urban extension of Medway in the area between Hempstead and Walderslade.

Suitable development areas have already been identified at Chattenden/Lodge Hill which comprises extensive areas of previously developed land accessible to the existing local shopping and transport facilities.

The Medway Towns are characterised by extensive riversides area that are in need of regeneration. They offer good access to jobs, key services and infrastructure and are accessible by various modes of public transport.

Jonathan and Paul have been working hard to convince the Government and Medway Council that releasing the Chattendon/Lodge Hill site for new housing is the best way to meet Medway’s future housing requirements. They will continue to do so and make clear their total opposition to the development of Capstone Valley.

Paul and Jonathan both opposed development in 2005, when Medway Magna first attempted to build on Capstone Valley.

Back in 2005, Paul was quoted as saying: "The protection of this site is imperative. Capstone Valley works not only as a green lung, but also gives everyone in Gillingham and Rainham a Greenfield  area we can all enjoy."

In a recent lettter to supporters of his campaign to protect the Valley, Paul said: “I sincerely hope that every effort will be made to protect Capstone Valley and to resist the pressure of development that is motivated solely by the greed of landowners and developers  and which is opposed by the vast majority of Medway’s residents.”
