23rd April 2008: Today marks St George's Day in England.
How should we be celebrating it?
The Prime Minister said that the issue of whether St George's Day should be a public holiday is "a matter for national discussion", so vote online in my poll (in the column on the left), let me know what you think, and I will send the results to Downing Street so that we get a response.
I look forward to hearing from you...get voting!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MP ASKS: HOW SHOULD WE CELEBRATE ST GEORGE’S DAY?
Paul Clark MP today called for greater recognition of St George’s Day, England’s national day, and is asking constituents to tell him how they think we ought to be celebrating England’s patron saint.
The MP for Gillingham and Rainham is conducting an online poll on his website, www.paulclarkmp.com, and will write to the Prime Minister with the results.
On St George’s Day itself, the MP is marking the day by flying the St George’s Cross from his office window in Westminster and by emblazoning his correspondence with the St George’s Cross, making a change from his normal letterheads which proudly fly the Union Jack!
Paul Clark said: We should be proud to celebrate St George as the patron saint of England, and it is interesting to see that polls out today show that many more people celebrate St Patrick’s Day in England than celebrate St George’s Day. I want constituents to vote in my online poll and tell me exactly how they think we should be celebrating. Should today be a national holiday? Should the council be holding a civic ceremony? Should we simply ignore the day altogether? Let me know and I’ll make sure the Prime Minister knows what you think. Gordon Brown today said that whether St George’s Day should be a public holiday is “a matter for public debate”, so let’s have that debate and let him know what we think.
